INSOMNIA

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder enabling people to fall asleep. It is a relatively common
disorder that can affect people of all ages for varying amounts of time. Usually its
effects last for only a few nights, but it is possible for the symptoms to continue for
months and even years. It can be caused by several factors like psychiatric problems,
persistent stress, use of stimulants or alcohol, a lack of exercise, excessive noise or
light, and certain physical illnesses. Insomnia is not defined by the number of hours of
sleep a person gets or how long it takes to fall asleep. Individuals vary normally in
their need for, and their satisfaction with, sleep. Insomnia may cause problems during
the day, such as tiredness, a lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, and irritability.
Insomnia can be classified as transient, intermittent, and chronic.
Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, stress, depression, irregular schedules, and food and
exercise before bedtime may cause sleeplessness may also cause Insomnia. Transient
insomnia is a disturbance in sleeping patterns, which lasts for a few nights only. In
this case, you are a princess who has a brief run-in with a frustrating pea such as: jet
lag, excitement, stress, illness, or a change in sleep schedule. Short-term insomnia is
slightly more serious because it persists for about 2-3 weeks. Contributing factors
include a job change, divorce, serious illness, financial problems, or the death of a
close friend/relative. Chronic insomnia is the rarest and most serious type, with
episodes lasting longer than a few weeks. In spite of this, 10-15% of the US population
suffers from it.
The average adult needs eight hours of sound sleep each night. However, most adults get
between six and seven hours. This falls short of the recommended amount by one to two
hours. Unbeknownst to many, this one to two hours of sleep that is lost each night can
have a profound affect on one's health. I believe no matter what the cause of your sleep
problems if its any of the sleep disorders, it is always advisable to consult with a
physician that knows how to treat the problem properly. It may take some experimenting,
but once you get treatment, you will be on your way to a better night's sleep every
night.
